"The magnitude of our social problems will require that all citizens and institutions make a commitment to volunteering as a way of life and as a primary opportunity to create needed change." -- Gov. George Romney (1907-1995)

Our Purpose
The purpose of the Albion Volunteer Service Organization is to support and promote volunteerism throughout the Greater Albion community by providing leadership and service opportunities for volunteers, offering opportunities for leadership growth and training to meet the changing needs of the community, actively supporting local non-profit organizations in fulfilling their missions, promoting cooperation and collaboration among volunteer organizations, and operating a center to provide office facilities and services, advice, information, and technical assistance to non-profit groups.

Albion Volunteer Service Organization Activities & Programs:
Volunteer referral and placement services help bring together volunteers and organizations that need them. Matches are made by calling the center.

Community Calendars, newsletters, and a Resource Guide are just a few ways the AVSO communicates events and services provided in the community.

The AVSO celebrates the accomplishments of volunteers through the media, its annual volunteer recognition program, National Volunteer Week festivities, and the Unsung Hero Award (sponsored by Homestead Savings Bank).

The Volunteer Center offers excellent office facilities for non-profit organizations. The conference room has a TV and VCR, dry-erase board, and overhead projector. Conference rooms are also available any time after hours by appointment. The Center also has a multi-function copy machine, color scanner, video camera, digital camera, fax machine, laminator and binder. Member organizations may use our mailing address, storage facilities, and rent-a-desk service.

The Center has PC computers with CD-ROM for public use. The computers have word processing, database, spreadsheet, desktop publishing, and Internet communications software. The Center also has a color scanner and laser printer.

Perhaps the most important part of the center is the dedicated staff. Volunteer Center staff provide assistance to non-profits by designing

  • flyers,
  • brochures,
  • banners,
  • calendars,
  • note cards,
  • stationary and
  • tickets.

Staff can type

  • letters,
  • meeting minutes or
  • labels.

They can also provide assistance with

  • grant writing,
  • program evaluation,
  • strategic planning, and
  • mailings.
